| Mudjahid II Siradj al-Dawla 468-469 / 1075-1076 According to various chronicles ( Ibn Khaldun & Ibn al-Abbar) Siradj al-Dawla was one of the sons of Iqbal al-Dawla who, after the occupation of Denia by al-Muqtadir of Zaragoza in 468H, made himself independent in Segura. His reign would be short lived as he was poisoned at the instigation of al-Muqtadir in 469H. The importance of this coin is that it ties the laqab Siradj al-Dawla with the ism Mudjahid something which is not established in the Arabic chronicles. On the other hand a Christian document of the period relating to an arrangement between the bishop of Barcelona and the kingdom of Denia cites as signer, in representation of Iqbal al-Dawla, his son by the name Mudjahid (see Maria Jesus Ribiira Mata, La Taifa de Denis, Alicante, 1985, pgs 103-104). This coin establishes the signer of the document of Barcelona as the same person as the brief ruler of Segura. On the coin only the first three letters of the mint appear and there second seems to be a "k" instead of the more usual "q". | ||||||
